Blue Ridge Area Narcotics Anonymous takes its name from the mountain range that forms its eastern border and the worldwide fellowship of recovering addicts. The area extends through the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, from Shenandoah and Page counties in the north, through Rockingham and Augusta counties, to Rockbridge County in the south.

When the home groups began to organize in the early 1980s, the area included most of the state west of Richmond. Today, BRANA has a dozen home groups and about 30 meetings a week in Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Fishersville, Luray, Mount Jackson, New Market, Shenandoah and Lexington.
